PE - Lima 7/28-7/30

We arrived late in the evening on the same Friday as our departure from the U.S. Upon our arrival, we pushed our way through a number of over anxious taxi drivers, bargained for a price and made our way to the hostel.

Our hostel wasn't in the best area of Lima, but it was far from being in the worst. We unpacked into our private room and enjoyed a good night sleep before our tour of the city the following day.

We awoke early for the 9:00 parade that started promptly at 11:15. Over and over the sound of "Bolsa! Bolsa! Bolsa!" rang along the parade route as entrepreneurial locals sold plastic bags to cover the very dirty fence along the route. The parade was a bit of a let down... We think it was for the new president, but didn't stick around long enough to really find out.

After the parade, we walked to the Plaza de Armas to have lunch and tour a nearby church, Iglesia San Francisco. On our way back through the plaza, we met a couple of local Peruvian girls, Mavi and Sandra, who were gracious enough to show us around the town for the rest of the day. We enjoyed dinner, drinks and dancing before turning in early for our very early bus ride to Huaraz the next morning.
