The Decemberists

This past Friday night I had the pleasure of seeing The Decemberists, an eclectic band with some nice tunes. If you haven't heard them, check them out.

I thought I'd make a quick mention of an album that I'm really diggin' right now: Citizen Cope: The Clarence Greenwood Recordings. Listen to it, love it, and don't complain.

Ani Concert

This past Friday night proved to be a good experience for me. I attended the Ani Difranco concert, and was quite pleased with the show. In particular, a patriotic poem, which I thought was hilarious, grabbed my attention. As it was described by Ani to the Arbiter Online:

There's one long poem, for instance, on the new record called 'Grand Canyon,' which is a self-described patriotic poem, because I hate it when language is taken away from people, you know, when great words like 'feminist' are turned into dirty taboos. And 'patriot' is another one that has recently been controlled and bastardized by the mainstream media and the establishment. I think we've been fed a very false idea of 'patriot,' or maybe a fascist idea of 'patriot,' which is to be blindly accepting, obedient and non-critical of the government. I think the idea of 'patriot' in a democracy is a very different thing.

Here's a couple of low quality pictures from the show. The pictures were taken at a distance, and I didn't want to mess around with exposure settings.

P.S. Cam, you missed out.

Sondre Lerche and Rachael Yamagata

I was happily informed of a new favorite performer's show earlier this week, and of course, I made all the needed plans to make my way there. I went to a very similar show back in July of this year with Sondre Lerche and Rachael Yamagata, where the headliner was not Sondre, but Ed Harcourt. Given the quality of the previous show, I was very excitied for this one.

I am pleased to say this show surpassed my expectations. Both Rachael and Sondre provided solid sets. The venue, a forest decorated room of the Quest night club, provided the perfect atmosphere for a show of this kind. If anyone is interested in some alternative chilled music, I would strongly suggest checking both of these artists out.
